Kodaikanal

          Kodaikanal is a hill station located in the district of Dindigul,Tamilnadu. It is also said that the name originated from two tamil word "kodai" and "kanal" meaning "place to visit in summer".As the name says it is a very good place to visit in the month of april and may(Summer season).
Kodaikanal is a tidy place, and the people maintain it. Plastic carry bags are prohibited and you'll not even find it in shops.

Places you should never miss!!         

1)Kodaikanal lake: The important place to visit in kodaikanal is the kodaikanal lake.It has its own scenic beauty and a boating at this place is always awesome.I’m sure You’ll surely enjoy it.The boating cost will be Rs.100/- and Rs.150/-(I’m just mentioning the cost when we went).

2)Berijam Lake: A wonderful place for nature lovers.You'll get to see hills and greenish things all over.You'll be charged Rs.100/- per head as entrance fee.
                             The lake is 25 KM away from Kodai. You need a forest permit to enter the area. You need to hire a taxi or have vehicle of your own. There are a few good view points and you are lucky if they are not covered by myst. The lake itself is pristine, large. No activities allowed in the lake.

                               Lake is situated in middle of jungle offering peaceful and serene atmosphere surrounded by pine trees. Lovely place to sit and enjoy nature..

3)Pillar rocks: Not a great place but a good one.You can see nice formation of clouds.

Reviews:
              This is a natural scenic beauty. The view of several adjoining rocks is great. The view of deep valley is also scenic. Small shops selling eatbles, forset products, handicraft articles. It was good to watch.

4)Coakers Walk:
A 1 km walk where you can witness the beauty of Kodaikanal.

              Felt like on 9th cloud...amazing view...me and my husband went there on our first anniversary...we had a romantic walk.(From Bhopal).

5)Guna cave: Kamal Haasan's famous movie "Guna" shooting took place here.So, it is named Guna cave.But, the shooting spot is now closed as it is dangerous.So, now you can just take photos near trees.If your going in a hurry you can skip this spot. Noting gr8.

               This used to be open before for public. Now you can only walk to the entry and return.  

6)Bear Shola falls:   This is a beautiful water fall that falls from quite some height. Place is surrounded by mountains on 3 sides with thick forests. Sometimes we can see Bison's roaming around.

                The entry is through a gate and need to walk for 20 minutes to reach the waterfalls through the jungle. When we went there was very less water but the breathtaking view of long eucalyptuses trees on the way was a nice experience.  

7)Pine forest: A place where you can take good snaps of dense forest.Looks like a dense forest which you might have seen in a movie.

8)Bryant Park: You can see a wide variety of flowers and plants, but check when the season is getting started.

9)Suicide Point: You'll get a good glimpse of valley,hills and clouds. Also called "green valley view".

10)Dolphin's nose: You have to walk almost 2 to 3 kms to reach this place. The view is very good.

12 Things that you should  not forget while going to Kodaikanal:

1. Plan which place to visit first:
Plan which place you have to visit first and in which order you have to go, so that you can cover all places. Use google map and find the distances between places.

2. Check your vehicle:If your going in a private car or van, check the fuel, air and condition of the vehicle before leaving. Get contact of some mechanical shop nearby, so in emergency situation it will be helpful.

3. Cloths that can withstand chill weather:
Pack some sweater/jacket, blanket, scarf/cap, gloves, socks, good shoes. Add some other cloths that are essential for you.

4. Proofs: Id card, some documents(if your going in a private vehicle).

5. Creams and Medicines:
Lip balm, vaseline, skin cream, moisturizers and tablets.


6. Warm water: Better to drink warm water.


7. Capture memories: Camera, camera charger, mobile phone, phone charger, memory card(if needed).


8. Bargain: In kodaikanal, if your thinking to buy something, try to bargain.


9. Do not miss native tea and coffee.


10. Boating:
Don't miss lake boating.


11. Beware of snakes and leeches: If your going inside a tea plantation be careful, it may be homes for many snakes and leeches.


12. Don't miss home made chocolates.
